As many of you know, one of the children in our room had a sibling diagnosed with Leukemia earlier this week. We came together as a class to make him a "Welcome Home" banner. The kids were each given a letter to decorate that were later glued together. The students were so interested in learning about him. They asked about his favorite color, favorite sports, and even how his room was decorated. It was such a sweet and thoughtful act of kindness. As a teacher, it's not just about teaching kids about the curriculum, it's about teaching the whole child. I was honored to be given an opportunity to show children the importance of doing for others. Here is the final product...

Our First FULL Week!
It's time to celebrate the first FULL week of school! Here are just a few of the fun things we have been doing...
We read the book David Goes to School by David Shannon. We learned about rules and why it is important to have them.
Peacemakers are people who follow the rules.
Peace breakers are people who break the rules.
We did an art project of David and wrote a story about him. Come stop by the hall to check out your child's masterpiece!
Our class had fun playing Back to School Bingo.
We shared what we remembered about math using
tally marks, charts, and graphs,
play dough,
dominoes,
puzzles #1-100,
and our classroom iPads.
We also started our Writers Workshop unit, I Can Be an Author Books, and small group work.
The students in our room all enjoyed their designated time on the computer each day!
On Friday, everyone was able to bring something from home to share. It was great to hear the children telling what made their item special and why. We had a wonderful time listening, laughing, and making memories as a class!
As you can see...it was a FABULOUS week in FIRST GRADE. Time to rest up for the next one...I need a nap!
