How Does Your Garden Grow?

Two weeks ago we finished our unit on plants.  As a culminating activity, we did some planting of our own.  We planted green beans and zinnias.  The zinnias sprouted in just three days; however, our green beans started slow but quickly took the lead.  Today Mrs. Albright had to send them home to be replanted.  The tallest one was over 16 inches!  If you look closely, you can see the roots through the clear cup.  We are keeping our zinnias at school to track their progress.  Hope they are ready before Spring Break!

Music All Over Me

Last Thursday Night, the First Graders at St. Simons Elementary were STARS!  They performed the play, Music All Over Me, for more than 250 parents, family members and friends.  They were so AWESOME that on Friday morning, they performed the play again for the entire school.  Here are just a few photos and clips from the songs they sang.  I am so proud of them!!!

Here's a few that will put a smile on your face...

St. Patrick's Day Shenanigans

On March 17, we were visited by a little leprechaun!  He messed up our room by turning over chairs, decorated with green crepe paper, and even locked the door before he left!!!  The good news is that he brought us Leprechaun Lemonade and chocolate covered fortune cookies with green sprinkles.  I guess we ended up being the "lucky" ones!

He even left behind some green and white mints, a special green coin, and 5 GREEN tickets for each of us.

Since it was such a special day, Mrs. Albright decided we could spend math time doing "Shamrock Stations."

We started out playing Shamrock Bump where we were working on addition with three addends.

Then we were able to graph Lucky Charms and answer some questions about our own chart.  Which do you have the most of?  The least?  How many more Shooting Stars than Pots of Gold?  Etc....

We even learned what the word BLARNEY means by playing another math game.  Ask us to tell you about it!

Finally, we were able to do some more addition.

Shamrock Stations were a lot of work but so much FUN!!!

Dr. Seuss Fun

Today we celebrated Read Across America Day at school.  The Cat in the Hat even dropped in for a visit!

Last week we each were able to present a book report on a different Dr. Seuss book.  Come stop by our hallway to see the wonderful work we have completed!

Below you will see a quick snapshot of the books we selected.

I even shared my favorite book along with a special snack.  Can you guess what it is?
