Come Listen to Us!

We have been working on writing personal narratives since the beginning of first grade.  We have worked on making our characters move, feel, talk, and even think.  We have learned how to use craft moves like our mentor authors do in our writing.  We know how to show exact actions, use ellipses, and have POP words on our pages.  Come listen as we read you our stories...

Disclosure: The story each child selected was his/her favorite story we have competed this year.  Here are the first half of the class.
I hope to have the second half loaded soon!

Pumpkin Patch Visit

Today we visited the Pumpkin Patch!

We had a wonderful time listening and learning about pumpkins.

We learned about different adjectives (describing words) we can use to talk about pumpkins.  There are soooo many: bumpy, orange, rough, smooth, pulpy, and sweet are just a few.

I think our favorite part was exploring the pumpkin patch.

We were able to take a class picture with a
gigantic jack-o'-lantern...

And lots of individual pictures!

Did you notice we are all holding a pumpkin?
Well, the nice people at SSUMC let us each purchase a small pumpkin for just $1.00.  We are so thankful to have a little Halloween decoration to take home with us!

A special thank you to all the parents who came to help out!  I wish I would have gotten all of them...
there is always next time!

Another wonderful day at our little school by the sea!

Happy 50th Day of School!

Today we celebrated the 50th day of school in style!  Everyone dressed in their best 50's attire from head to toe.  The room was filled with poodle skirts, loafers, oxfords, blue jeans, scarves, and more!
We started the day with a few photos.

Look at the girls...

The boys....

And the entire class...

We spent some time comparing and contrasting things in the 50's and things today.  The kids were amazed with black and white, small televisions instead of today's color,
big screens!

We worked hard all morning and we were ready for a break, so we treated ourselves to root beer floats!

Many of us had no idea what a rootbeer float was; however, as you can see, we sure enjoyed them!  We even wrote a "how to" book so we would have the recipe.

During writing time, we wrote about what we would look like and act like when we're 50.
The stories are too cute and still in progress.  I hope to post them soon!
We even made a list of 50 things we LOVE!

During Math, we counted by 2's, 5's, and 10's to 50 and finished off the lesson with a mystery picture.
Can you guess what it was?  Yes, it was the numeral 50!

We played a game, Roll and Cover, using 50's themed game boards.  Everyone seemed to have a blast!

We finished off the day with a sock hop where we danced our hearts out and did the twist to many well known
 50's songs.

I can't wait for the kids to share their stories with you.
We had a FABUOLUSLY FUN 50th Day of School!!!
